STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 8009 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY September 1, 2023 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. GANDOLFO -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to establishing a no fare program for transportation on the Long Island Rail Road for individuals in active military service of the United States and active duty members of the New York national guard The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 1266 of the public authorities law is amended by 2 adding a new subdivision 20 to read as follows: 3 20. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the authority, in 4 consultation with the Long Island Rail Road, shall establish and imple- 5 ment a no fare program for transportation on the Long Island Rail Road 6 for individuals in active military service of the United States and 7 active duty members of the New York national guard. 8 (b) In order to be eligible for such no fare program, an individual in 9 active military service of the United States or an active duty member of 10 the New York national guard shall show his or her military-issued or New 11 York national guard-issued identification card. 12 (c) For the purposes of this subdivision, the terms "active military 13 service of the United States", "New York national guard", "military", 14 and "active duty" shall have the same meanings as defined by section one 15 of the military law. 16 § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after 17 it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend- 18 ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen- 19 tation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and 20 completed on or before such effective date.
