       AN ACT to  prohibit  municipalities  from  charging  multiple  fees  for
         certificates of occupancy for assembly halls
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Notwithstanding any law, rule or regulation to the  contra-
    2  ry,  if  a  municipality  elects to charge a permit or inspection fee in
    3  order to issue a certificate of occupancy for an assembly hall,  includ-
    4  ing  temporary  or  partial  certificates of occupancy, the municipality
    5  shall not charge more than one permit or inspection fee for the assembly
    6  hall, regardless of the number of subspaces such hall  may  contain  and
    7  regardless  of  whether the municipality requires a separate certificate
    8  of occupancy for each subspace.
    9    The provisions of this act shall not apply to inspections  or  certif-
   10  icates of occupancy relating to school facilities.
   11    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
