STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 7479 2021-2022 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY May 10, 2021 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. WALKER -- read once and referred to the Committee on Election Law AN ACT to amend part CCC of chapter 55 of the laws of 2019 amending the election law, relating to enacting the Voter Enfranchisement Modern- ization Act of 2019, in relation to the effectiveness thereof The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 6 of part CCC of chapter 55 of the laws of 2019 2 amending the election law, relating to enacting the Voter Enfranchise- 3 ment Modernization Act of 2019, is amended to read as follows: 4 § 6. This act shall take effect [on the earlier occurrence of: (i)5two years after it shall have become a law; provided, however, the state6board of elections shall be authorized to implement necessary rules and7regulations and to take steps required to implement this act immediate-8ly; or (ii) five days after the date of certification by the state board9of elections that the information technology infrastructure to substan-10tially implement this act is functional. Provided, further that the11state board of elections shall notify the legislative bill drafting12commission upon the occurrence of the enactment of the legislation13provided for in this act in order that the commission may maintain an14accurate and timely effective data base of the official text of the laws15of the state of New York in furtherance of effectuating the provisions16of section 44 of the legislative law and section 70-b of the public17officers law] on the same date and in the same manner as chapter 350 of 18 the laws of 2020, takes effect; provided, however, that the state board 19 of elections shall be authorized to implement necessary rules and regu- 20 lations and to take steps required to implement this act immediately. 21 § 2.
