        Introduced by M. of A. SAYEGH -- read once and referred to the Committee
          on Health

        AN  ACT  in  relation to establishing statewide pilot programs promoting
          the use of  alternative  treatments  for  individuals  suffering  from
          chronic lower back pain

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The commissioner  of  health  is  authorized  to  establish
     2  statewide  pilot programs for the purpose of promoting the use of alter-
     3  natives to opioid treatment for individuals suffering from chronic lower
     4  back pain by offering access to   nonpharmacologic  treatments  such  as
     5  acupuncture  and  chiropractic  services.  Such  access  may be provided
     6  statewide, with a focus on areas within the state that have the  highest
     7  need  for  such  services. The provisions of this section shall not take
     8  effect unless all necessary approvals  under federal  law and regulation
     9  have been obtained to receive federal  financial  participation  in  the
    10  costs of services provided under this section.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
