       AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law,  in  relation  to  corporate
         defendants
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Section 600.20 of the criminal procedure law is amended  to
    2  read as follows:
    3  S 600.20  Corporate defendants; prosecution thereof.
    4    At  all  stages  of  a  criminal action, from the commencement thereof
    5  through sentence, a corporate defendant must appear by  counsel.    Upon
    6  failure  of appearance at the time such defendant is required to enter a
    7  plea to the accusatory instrument, the court may enter a plea of  guilty
    8  and  impose  sentence.    UPON FINDING A CORPORATE DEFENDANT LIABLE, THE
    9  DISTRICT ATTORNEY MAY SIMULTANEOUSLY FILE A CIVIL JUDGMENT AGAINST  SUCH
   10  CORPORATE DEFENDANT.
   11    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
