        AN ACT directing the office of mental health to conduct a study  on  the
          effects  of abuse suffered while incarcerated on formerly incarcerated
          individuals

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  The  office  of  mental  health,  in conjunction with the
     2  department of corrections and community  supervision,  shall  conduct  a
     3  study  on  the  effects of abuse suffered while incarcerated on formerly
     4  incarcerated individuals. Such study  shall  identify,  investigate  and
     5  analyze  the  temporary  and lasting impacts and costs of abuse suffered
     6  while incarcerated on formerly incarcerated individuals and make  recom-
     7  mendations  for best treatment practices for people experiencing mental,
     8  behavioral or physical health issues as a result of such abuse.
     9    § 2. Within one year of the effective date of this act, the office  of
    10  mental  health  shall issue a report of the findings of the study to the
    11  governor, the temporary president of the senate and the speaker  of  the
    12  assembly.
    13    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
