       AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation  to  designating
         police officers of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs as
         peace officers
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. Subdivision 21 of section 2.15 of  the  criminal  procedure
    2  law,  as added by chapter 549 of the laws of 1997, is amended to read as
    3  follows:
    4    21. United States  Department  of  Veterans  [Administration]  AFFAIRS
    5  SPECIAL  AGENTS, CRIMINAL INVESTIGATORS AND police officers [employed at
    6  the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Batavia]; PROVIDED HOWEVER
    7  THAT, NOTWITHSTANDING ANY PROVISION OF THIS  SECTION  TO  THE  CONTRARY,
    8  THEY  SHALL  ALSO HAVE THE POWERS SET FORTH IN PARAGRAPH (B) OF SUBDIVI-
    9  SION ONE OF SECTION 140.25 OF THIS CHAPTER AND THE POWERS SET  FORTH  IN
   10  PARAGRAPHS  (D),  (E) AND (G) OF SUBDIVISION ONE OF SECTION 2.20 OF THIS
   11  ARTICLE.
   12    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
