CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

Introduced Pending Technical Review by Legislative Counsel.

An Assembly Resolution urging the Delaware River Port Authority to create a toll discount program for military veterans.

Whereas, It is the dedication of the United States Armed Forces that allow Americans to enjoy domestic tranquility, general welfare, the blessings of liberty and posterity, and all of the inalienable rights outlined in the United States Constitution; and

Whereas, The State of New Jersey greatly appreciates the service of the millions of honorable men and women who have served our country in the United States Armed Forces; and

Whereas, America's service men and women make great sacrifices while serving the nation, a sacrifice shared by their families; and

Whereas, In recognition of their service and sacrifice, the State of Texas authorized a military veterans toll discount program for certain toll facilities in 2009; and

Whereas, In honor of those servicemen and women and to assist them particularly in their transition from military service, the creation of a military veterans toll discount program administered by the Delaware River Port Authority would complement the existing toll discount programs currently offered for senior citizens and commuters who utilize the electronic toll collection and monitoring system, known as E-ZPass; and

Whereas, By answering the call of duty and risking their lives to protect others, the Legislature of this State finds it fitting and proper  to honor those brave Americans and encourage the Delaware River Port Authority to create a toll discount program for military veterans; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

     1.    This House respectfully urges the Delaware River Port Authority to create a toll discount program for military veterans.
