STATEMENT

This bill appropriates $50,000 to the New Jersey Historical Commission to conduct a feasibility study on the construction of a "Museum of the American Revolution" in the Trenton area.

Since many of the crucial military actions of the Revolution took place in New Jersey, the State suffered a disproportionate share of the war's battles, invasions, and civil strife.  Throughout the war, George Washington spent more time in New Jersey than in any other state. The establishment of a museum devoted to the American Revolution would commemorate New Jersey's role in that important time period in our nation's history.  This facility would also have the potential to enhance tourism in the State, its second largest industry.

A broad-based feasibility study would explore the pros and cons of establishing such a facility, especially in terms of management, attendance, location, fundraising, operating expenses, interpretive themes, and architectural considerations.
