SYNOPSIS
Designates May 6 of each year as "Visiting Nurse Association Day."

A Joint Resolution designating May 6 of each year as "Visiting Nurse Association Day."
Whereas, Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) programs provide compassionate health and related care, including cost-effective home health and hospice care, to individuals and families; and
Whereas, New Jersey is home to multiple VNAs, including several that have more than a century of proud history; and
Whereas, Tens of thousands of people are cared for each year by thousands of dedicated VNA caregivers in New Jersey; and
Whereas, VNA caregivers serve people of all ages from children to the elderly and people facing the end of life; and
Whereas, Each VNA has a history of caring for others by providing members of their community with a unique array of services, including providing and coordinating economical and free patient care, promoting individual and community health, and providing grief counseling and bereavement support; and
Whereas, The dedication and compassion shown by VNA caregivers to their patients exemplify the social-minded values of New Jerseyans; and
Whereas, National Nurses Week is celebrated each year from May 6th to May 12th to recognize the hard work and dedication of nurses across the United States; and
Whereas, In recognition of the services New Jersey's VNAs provide, it is fitting and proper for the State of New Jersey to designate May 6 of each year as "Visiting Nurse Association Day"; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. May 6 of each year is designated as "Visiting Nurse Association Day" to recognize the caregiving services of New Jersey's Visiting Nurse Associations.
2. The Governor is requested to annually issue a proclamation calling upon public officials and citizens of this State to observe "Visiting Nurse Association Day" with appropriate activities and programs.
3. This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This joint resolution recognizes the caregiving services of New Jersey's Visiting Nurse Associations (VNA) and designates May 6 of each year as "Visiting Nurse Association Day." New Jersey is home to multiple VNAs, including several that have been active for more than a hundred years.
New Jersey's VNAs provide compassionate health, hospice, and related care to individuals and families, both in home and at medical facilities. Thousands of VNA caregivers serve New Jerseyans by providing and coordinating economical and free patient care, and promoting individual and community health.
National Nurses Week is celebrated each year from May 6th to May 12th. In recognition of the services New Jersey's VNAs provide, it is appropriate to designate May 6 of each year as "Visiting Nurse Association Day."
