     Requires driver's license to display license holder's blood type.

An Act concerning driver's licenses and supplementing chapter 3 of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    In addition to the requirements for the form and content of a motor vehicle driver's license issued under R.S.39:3-10 and a probationary license issued under section 4 of P.L.1950, c.127 (C.39:3-13.4), each initial driver's license, and each renewal thereof, and each probationary license issued after the effective date of P.L.      , c.     (C.        ) (pending before the Legislature as this bill) shall display the license holder's blood type.  The license holder's blood type shall be displayed in a manner and fashion prescribed by the chief administrator so that the information is readily available to emergency responders.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect on the first day of the ninth month following enactment, but the Chief Administrator of the Motor Vehicle Commission may take such anticipatory action in advance of that date as may be necessary for the implementation of this act.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill would require a driver's license and probationary driver's license to display the license holder's blood type.

     The ready availability of blood type information can facilitate first responders and other emergency workers in rendering aid in a time of injury or disaster.
