SYNOPSIS

      Exempts experienced volunteer firefighters from certain requirements.

     As amended but not reported by the Assembly Public Safety and Preparedness Committee on February 22, 2024, with amendments.

  

An Act concerning firefighters and supplementing Title 40A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

      1.   A fire department or force, whether ¹[paid,]¹ part-paid ¹[,]¹ or volunteer, shall not prohibit a ¹volunteer¹ firefighter who has five or more years of experience in fire suppression, firefighting, or fire rescue from engaging in fire suppression, firefighting, or fire rescue solely on the grounds that the ¹volunteer¹ firefighter is uncertified or does not meet a requirement that is not imposed pursuant to statute, rule, or regulation.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.
