SYNOPSIS
Provides that a public school used as a polling place may not be open for classes and the day must be used for staff professional development.

An Act concerning the use of a school as a polling place and supplementing chapter 36 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Whenever a public school is used as a polling place on the day of an election, the board of education of the school district shall not hold classes in the school on the day of the election. The board shall use the day for in-service training or professional development for the teaching staff members employed in the school.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill provides that whenever a public school is used as a polling place on the day of an election, the board of education of the school district may not hold classes in the school on the day of the election. The board is required to use the day for in-service training or professional development for the teaching staff members employed in that school.
