CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
An Act concerning behind-the-wheel instructional experience and supplementing P.L.1951, c.216 (C.39:12-1 et seq.).
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. No drivers' school, or person employed as a driving instructor, shall prohibit a parent or guardian from being a passenger in the backseat of a motor vehicle during a student's behind-the-wheel instructional experience if the student is under 18 years of age.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
Under the provisions of this bill, no drivers' school, or person employed as a driving instructor, could prohibit a parent or guardian from being a passenger in the backseat of a vehicle during a student's behind-the-wheel instructional experience if the student is under 18 years of age. The bill allows a parent or guardian of a student who is a minor to take the precaution of being present during the instruction so the student is not alone with the driving instructor.
