     Increases total marriage license and civil union license fees from $28 to $50; allocates $25 to municipality.

An Act concerning marriage license and civil union license fees and amending R.S.37:1-12.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  R.S.37:1-12 is amended to read as follows:

     37:1-12.  For issuing a marriage or civil union license, the licensing officer shall be entitled to receive from the applicants the sum of [three dollars ($3.00)] $25.

     2.  This act shall take effect on the first day of the third month next following enactment.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     Current law requires marriage license and civil union license applicants to pay a total of $28 in fees to the licensing officer.  Pursuant to R.S.37:1-12, $3 of the total amount is allocated to the municipality issuing the license.  Pursuant to R.S.37:1-12.1, an additional $25 is allocated to the Department of Human Services.  This bill increases the municipality's income from marriage license and civil union license fees to $25, in effect increasing the total amount of these fees to $50.
