SYNOPSIS

     Requires public schools to weight courses in visual and performing arts equally with other courses worth same number of credits in calculating grade point average.

An Act concerning the calculation of pupil grade point averages and supplementing chapter 35 of Title 18A of the New Jersey Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    A school district shall weight courses in the visual and performing arts equally with other courses worth the same number of credits in calculating a pupil's grade point average; except that advanced placement courses offered by the district shall be exempt from this requirement.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately and shall first apply to the 2010-2011 school year.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires public schools to weight courses in the visual and performing arts equally with other courses worth the same number of credits in calculating a pupil's grade point average.  The bill exempts advanced placement courses from this requirement.
