ANALYSIS

 

This bill declares that if substance use disorder services are a covered benefit under a health benefit plan, no prior authorization shall be required for prescribed medications for a substance use disorder.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Seventeen

 

AN ACT relative to authorization for clinician-prescribed substance use disorder services.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  New Section; Managed Care Law;  Authorization for Substance Use Disorders.  Amend RSA 420-J by inserting after section 17 the following new section:

420-J:18  Authorization for Medication-Assisted Treatment.  Whenever substance use disorder services are a covered benefit under a health benefit plan subject to this chapter, a health carrier that has authorized medication-assisted treatment for such services shall not require a renewal of such authorization more frequently than once every 24 months.

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
