STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Seventeen

 

AN ACT relative to honoring Jessie Doe and Mary L.R. Farnum, the first women elected to the New Hampshire house of representatives.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  Joint Legislative Historical Committee; Portraits of Jessie Doe and Mary L.R. Farnum.  In anticipation of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United State constitution and the celebration in 2019 of the bicentennial of the New Hampshire state house, the joint legislative historical committee established under RSA 17-I shall give priority to the acquisition of portraits of Jessie Doe, of Rollinsford, and Dr. Mary L.R. Farnum, of Boscawen, who in 1921 became the first women elected to the New Hampshire house of representatives, and who together founded the Organization of Women Legislators (OWLs).  The committee shall direct that the portraits be hung in suitable places of honor in the state house.

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
