STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Eighteen
AN ACT relative to the age at which persons may marry.
Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:
1 Marriageable; Minimum Age Requirement. Amend RSA 457:4 to read as follows:
457:4 Marriageable. No [male below the age of 14 years and no female below the age of 13] individual below the age of 16 years shall be capable of contracting a valid marriage that is entered into by one male and one female, and all marriages contracted by such persons shall be null and void. The only exception to the aforementioned shall be in the case of pregnancy, and/or if at least one of the individuals is a member of the United States armed forces, in which case the minimum age for males shall be 14 years and the minimum age for females shall be 13 years. No male below the age of 18 and no female below the age of 18 shall be capable of contracting a valid marriage between persons of the same gender, and all marriages contracted by such persons shall be null and void.
2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect January 1, 2019.
