A SENATE RESOLUTION relating to the appointment, nomination, and confirmation of Dr. Mandy Cohen as secretary of the department of Health and Human Services.

Whereas, pursuant to G.S. 143B‑9(a), the Governor shall notify the President of the Senate of the name of each person to be nominated as head of a principal State department; and

Whereas, each nomination is subject to senatorial advice and consent in conformance with Section 5(8) of Article III of the North Carolina Constitution; and

Whereas, a vacancy existed in one such position prior to the convening of the 2017 General Assembly; and

Whereas, under G.S. 143B‑9(a), the Governor is authorized to make an appointment to such a vacancy pending further action by the Senate; and

Whereas, the Governor has appointed Dr. Mandy Cohen to serve as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services pending further action by the Senate; Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

SECTION 1.  That the Senate shall hereby consider whether to confirm Dr. Mandy Cohen as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

SECTION 2.  This resolution is effective upon adoption.
