A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to direct the legislative Research Commission to study the need for legislation to better protect the right of persons to be paid for improvements to real property under a contract with the tenant.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  The Legislative Research Commission shall study the need to modify existing law to better protect the right of contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to be paid for furnishing labor, materials, rental equipment, or professional design or surveying services under a contract with the tenant who holds a leasehold interest in the improved real property.

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
