A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to modify the speed limit for a school bus with no child passengers on board.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 20‑218(b) reads as rewritten:
"(b) Speed Limits. – It is unlawful to drive a
school bus occupied by one or more child passengers over the highways or public
vehicular areas of the State at a greater rate of speed than 45 miles per hour.
It is unlawful to drive a school activity bus occupied by one or more child
passengers over the highways or public vehicular areas of North Carolinathe
State at a greater rate of speed than 55 miles per hour. A person shall
drive a school bus or school activity bus with no child passengers on board over
the highways or public vehicular areas of the State at a speed not greater than
the posted speed limit, and the driver shall not be required to use hazard
lights when traveling on the interstate."
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.
