A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE CONDOLENCES OF THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE TO THE BEREAVED FAMILY OF VETERAN CANTON LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER CARL LARRY SAXTON, SR., AND COMMENDING HIS LEGACY OF SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY.

     WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we mourn the passing of veteran Canton, Mississippi, law enforcement officer Carl Larry Saxton, Sr., who died on January 28, 2022, at the age of 79; and

     WHEREAS, Larry served as a Sergeant with the Canton Police Department and served the Madison County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff and an Investigator for over 33 years; and

     WHEREAS, Larry's friends and family affectionately called him "Big L."  However, his favorite names to be called were "Daddy" and "Pawpaw"; and

     WHEREAS, Larry gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Canton.  He was elected Deacon in 1985 at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton and at the time of his death, he was a Deacon at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church; and

     WHEREAS, Larry was a 32nd Degree Master Mason at the Canton Masonic Lodge, and he was also a Shriner; and

     WHEREAS, Larry was preceded in death by his father, James Calvin Saxton; mother, Nancy Gladys Saxton; brother, James Arthur Saxton; and sister, Odene Saxton McKay.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Haynes Saxton; sons, Larry Saxton, Jr., (Tammye) and Jimmy Saxton (Missy); daughters, Nancy Saxton and Stacey Coffey (Mike); nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, his legacy is a strong community and for this and for a lifetime of selfless service, a grateful state thanks him:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby extend the condolences of the Mississippi Senate to the bereaved family of Veteran Canton Law Enforcement Officer Carl Larry Saxton, Sr., and commend his legacy of service to his community.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Carl Larry Saxton, Sr., forwarded to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
