A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COAHOMA HIGH SCHOOL "RED PANTHERS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH DERRICK MOORE FOR WINNING THEIR THIRD CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN FOUR YEARS.
WHEREAS, for the third time in four years, the Coahoma County High School Boys Basketball Team are the Class 2A State Champions.
The Red Panthers (24-10, 9-1) defeated Potts Camp 56-36 in the championship at the Pavilion at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi, on March 6, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Coahoma County High School jumped out to a 21-4 lead with 2:27 remaining in the first quarter and finished thanks to five early three-pointers; and
WHEREAS, Senior Bentavious Galmore led the team in scoring and was also the game's MVP with 17 points, four assists and two steals. He connected on one three-pointer and went four of four from the free-throw line. Sophomore Christopher Abby had 12 points on four three-pointers in the first quarter, while senior Tarkevius Logan was also in double digits with 10 points; and
WHEREAS, Coahoma County High School Coach Derrick Moore talked about his team's work ethic to win multiple championships. "Devotion," he said. "They don't have a Christmas break. They don't have a Thanksgiving break. They don't have June. They don't have a break. It's work all the time. They stay committed"; and
WHEREAS, the 2020 Coahoma High School "Red Panthers" Boys Basketball Team Championship Roster is: Kalvin Harrell, Bentavious Galmore, Markevious Holmes, Keshun Holly, Amarian Phillips, Chrishunn Banks, Cameron Bell, Lamont Lee, Tarkeviuous Logan, Christopher Abby, Harlem Bell, Demarjay Rucker, Trumaine Jones, Christian Banks, Jaydon McCool, Clintavious Davis, Keyshawn Thomas, Tykeevius Taylor, Martin Williams, Jamario Galmore and Quintavious Brown; and Coach Derrick Moore; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Coahoma High School "Red Panthers" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Derrick Moore for winning their third Class 2A State Championship in four years and extend to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Derrick Moore for the team and Coahoma Principal Lynn Lang for the team, forwarded to the Coahoma County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
