A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LAKE CORMORANT HIGH SCHOOL "GATORS" BOYS POWERLIFTING TEAM FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 6A BOYS POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, Lake Cormorant High School has been dominating the powerlifting sport in Mississippi for several years. On April 6, 2024, the Lake Cormorant "Gators" continued that trend by winning the 2024 MHSAA Class 6A Boys Powerlifting Championship; and WHEREAS, the list of state qualifiers from Lake Cormorant in 6A Boys include: Randy Sapp (Junior), Tray Lockhart(Sophomore), Danny Sapp (Senior), Blaise Fisher (Senior), Kejuan Williams (Senior), Josh Matheny (Junior), and Hampton Fisher (Senior); and
WHEREAS, there are 12 different weight divisions in boys' powerlifting, ranging from 114 pounds to over 308 pounds. Through the competitors' placing in their division, points are earned to determine a team champion. There is a skill involved in successful powerlifting; it's not just about the muscle. The willingness to work hard at the sport is essential, as well as having the confidence to achieve the goal of lifting heavy weights; and
WHEREAS, the 2024 Lake Cormorant Championship Powerlifting Roster is: Randy Sap, Tray Lockhart, Danny Sap, Blaise Fisher, Carlos Hicks, Kejuan Williams, Josh Matheny and Hampton Fisher; and Coach Brandon Degraw; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Lake Cormorant High School "Gators" Boys Powerlifting Team for winning the MHSAA Class 6A Boys Powerlifting Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Brandon Degraw and Lake Cormorant High School Principal Bobby Davis for the team, forwarded to the DeSoto County Board of Education and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
