MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE

Senate Concurrent Resolution 711

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE PROFESSIONAL AND CIVIC CONTRIBUTIONS OF SIDNEY G. MORGAN UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE MISSISSIPPI INDEPENDENT PHARMACIES ASSOCIATION.

WHEREAS, Mr. Sidney Gerald Morgan, respected pharmacist and businessman from Okolona, Mississippi, has announced his retirement as longtime Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Independent Pharmacies Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Morgan is a founding member of the Mississippi Independent Pharmacies Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Morgan is the owner of Okolona Drug Company since 1974, and he has been honored by the Chamber of Commerce as Okolona Businessman of the Year.  He is active in the civic and charitable activities of his community and his church; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Morgan is a Veteran of the United States Army and served honorably in the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, he is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy; and

WHEREAS, Sidney and his wife, Susie, are the proud parents of two daughters, Amy and Stephanie; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Independent Pharmacies Association was formed to represent independent pharmacists who are one of the most trusted professions of this country and are the only health care provider that give free, no appointment necessary, trusted care.  These pharmacists pride themselves on being able to serve their patients and communities with the highest service.  Most independent pharmacies provide 24-hour emergency care, such as helping a mother with a sick child in the middle of the night.  Nearly all independent pharmacies provide delivery services to their patients despite rising fuel cost in today's markets.  If it were not for these independent pharmacists, the Gulf Coast and the rest of Mississippi might have seen a major healthcare disaster.  When the hospitals, local clinics, chain pharmacies, and even Keesler Air Force Base were closed, these local pharmacists rose to the top to provide patient care and service in the time of need for their communities; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the service of this Mississippi citizen who has brought honor to his profession, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend the professional and civic contributions of Sidney Gerald Morgan, respected pharmacist and businessman from Okolona, Mississippi, upon the occasion of his retirement as Chairman of the Mississippi Independent Pharmacies Association, and extend our best wishes to him and his family in their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Sidney Morgan, forwarded to the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Independent Pharmacies Association and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
