Senate Concurrent Resolution 683

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE OAK GROVE "MOJO" U12 SELECT BASEBALL TEAM AND THEIR COACHES AS THE CURRENT BASEBALL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION MISSISSIPPI STATE CHAMPIONS.

     WHEREAS, the Oak Grove "Mojo" U12 Select Baseball Team is the current Baseball Players Association Mississippi State Champions; and

     WHEREAS, the 12-year-olds were invited to play in a 96-team National Tournament at the hallowed Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, in July 2010.  They are the only Mississippi team in this prestigious tournament; and

     WHEREAS, the Selection Committee invited the Mojo based on their excellence on the field and their behavior off the field; and

     WHEREAS, the 11 players that comprise the team are:  Nathan Roseberry of Purvis Middle School, Alex Ward of Oak Grove Middle School, Davis Lott of Simpson Academy, Dylan Owen of Presbyterian Christian School, Robert Becton of Oak Grove Middle School, Shelton Smith of Purvis Middle School, Johnny Ford of Lamar Christian School, Jacob Phillips of Petal Middle School, Brady Farlow of Purvis Middle School, Rook Welch of Presbyterian Christian School and Logan Lambeth of Purvis Middle School; and

     WHEREAS, the Manager of the Mojo is Kelly Sanner of Oak Grove.  The Coaches are Jonathan Roseberry of Purvis, Mark Lott of Magee and Bret Becton of Oak Grove.  Although the kids represent six different schools in the Forrest/Lamar County areas, they play at the Optimist Park in Oak Grove; and

     WHEREAS, it is with pride that we congratulate this group of young athletes who are unofficial ambassadors for the State of Mississippi and bring pride to their community and state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend the Oak Grove "Mojo" U12 Select Baseball Team and their Coaches as the current Baseball Players Association Mississippi State Champions and extend to the players, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes as they represent Mississippi at the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Tournament in Cooperstown, New York.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Oak Grove Mojo Team and Coaches and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
