Senate Concurrent Resolution 679

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SALTILLO "LADY TIGERS" GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM AND COACH CHARLES COVINGTON FOR WINNING THE 2015 MHSAA 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, THEIR 12TH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on November 9, 2015, Emma Kate White cranked up her Seventh-Grade motor and raced to the Class 5A State Title in the MHSAA State Cross-Country Championship.  Saltillo High School covered the muddy 5K course in 20 minutes, 8 seconds to help lead the Lady Tigers to a 12th State Team Championship.  Saltillo Coach Charles Covington has now directed his girls' and boys' teams to 17 overall State Championships in cross-country; and

     WHEREAS, the Saltillo Girls' Cross-Country Team won the 2015 Region 1-5A Championship and the 2015 5A State Championship.  Receiving their State Champion rings are the following runners:  20th in the Division, Freshman LaKayn Davis; 19th in the Division, Senior Brooke Wilson; 17th in the Division, Junior Hannah Covington; 16th in the Division, Sophomore Millie White; 15th in the Division, Eighth-Grader Marie McCrary; All-Division, 14th in the Division, Eighth-Grader Arli Cook; All-Division, All-State, 14th in the State, Freshman Chamberlyn Grubbs; All-Division, All-State, 10th in the State, Freshman Lexi Loden; All-Division, All-State, 8th in the State, Junior Katie Sumner; All-Division, All-State, 5th in the State, Junior Leah Franks; All-Division, All-State, Division Runner-Up, 4th in the State, Freshman Makarthy Lane; All-Division, All-State, 3rd in the State, Junior Morgan Campbell; and All-Division, All-State, State Champion, Seventh-Grader Emma Kate White; and

     WHEREAS, the 2015 Saltillo "Lady Tigers" Girls' Cross-Country Team roster is:  Alyssa Blevins, Lakyn Boozer, Morgan Campbell, Arli Cook, Ashley Copeland, Hannah Covington, Lydia Covington, Lakyn Davis, Morgan Dennis, Taylor Dunaway, Leah Franks, Chamberlyn Grubbs, Danielle Harris, Elizabeth Harris, Matison Hurt, Leah Irwin, Sarah Grace Jackson, Makarthy Lane, Lexi Loden, Annie Lusby, Molly McCarthy, Marie McCrary, Autumn McHenry, Shelby Merrell, Keely Monaghan, Mary Ashton Priest, Gracie Roper, Chloe Samples, Brooke Sanford, Hope Simmons, Katie Sumner, Haley Thornberry, Cera Turner, Hannah Vance, Tatum Weaver, Emma Kate White, Millie White, Memory Willingham, Claire Willis, Brooke Wilson and Georgia Wood; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a dream season by a group of student athletes who, along with the Saltillo Girls' Team, have brought honor to their school, their community, and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Saltillo "Lady Tigers" Girls' Cross-Country Team and Coach Charles Covington for winning the 2015 MHSAA 5A State Championship, their 12th State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches and parents for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Covington for the team, Saltillo Principal Tim DeVaughn, forwarded to the Lee County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
