Senate Concurrent Resolution 646
(As Adopted by Senate and House)
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHWEST RANKIN HIGH SCHOOL "LADY COUGARS" BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH ANGIE REYNOLDS FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST MHSAA CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, at the March 5, 2011, Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6A Girls Championship game, Northwest Rankin "Lady Cougars" High School Basketball star forward Taylor Beverly blocked seven shots, including one in the final seconds that clinched the victory, leading Northwest Rankin to a 66-63 victory over defending Champion Horn Lake; and
WHEREAS, it was the first State Title for Northwest Rankin (24-8), which avenged an 11-point loss to Horn Lake in the North State Finals; and
WHEREAS, Taylor Beverly, a 5-foot-10 senior forward, led the "Lady Cougars" with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 7 blocks. While Horn Lake staged a frantic comeback that nearly succeeded, Northwest Rankin won the game by blitzing the Lady Eagles with big runs in each half, including a 12-4 run to open the second half that put Northwest Rankin up 45-30; and
WHEREAS, the Northwest Rankin High School "Lady Cougars" roster is as follows: Seniors: Taylor Beverly, Santoya Bilbro, Arkeyla Branch, Vandria Dampier, Jasmine Grant, Andrea Hollis, Epiphany Sutton and Fairley Wash; Juniors: Otiria Chaffee and Malinda Kyles; Sophomores: Kelsey Hubbard and Arin Ladner; Freshman: Parris Ladner; and Head Coach Angela Reynolds; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this talented group of student athletes whose first State Title has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northwest Rankin High School "Lady Cougars" Basketball Team and Head Coach Angela Reynolds for winning their first Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A State Championship, and we extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors on this occasion and for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Angela Reynolds and Principal Richard Morrison for the team, forwarded to the Rankin County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
