Senate Concurrent Resolution 640

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. MARTIN HIGH SCHOOL "YELLOW JACKETS" BOWLING TEAM AND COACH BRAD TALLEY FOR WINNING THE CLASS II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN ONLY THEIR SECOND YEAR AS A TEAM.

WHEREAS, in only its second year with a bowling team, St. Martin High School "Yellow Jackets" won the Class II State Championship on February 16, 2017; and

WHEREAS, led by sophomore Ryan Fiorentino, the Yellow Jackets swept Neshoba Central (D'Iberville girls nearly made it a sweep for the Coast, but were edged by Neshoba Central); and

WHEREAS, St. Martin qualified for the tournament as a wild card after finishing third in the South Regional behind D'Iberville  and Harrison Central.  The Yellow Jackets were second behind Neshoba in preliminary bowling with a team score of 3,859 for four games; and

WHEREAS, in the roll-off, with five bowlers alternating frames, St. Martin defeated Neshoba 202-183 in the first game, thanks to three strikes in the tenth frame by Fiorentino, then won the next two games easily, 200-148 and 224-161; and

WHEREAS, "Today was our best day of the year," said St. Martin Coach Brad Talley, who attributed the success to team chemistry.  "They really get along with each other and they have a lot of fun doing it"; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. Martin High School "Yellow Jackets," and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future successes.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Brad Talley and St. Martin Principal Dina Holland, forwarded to the Board of Trustees for St. Martin High School, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
