A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MADISON-RIDGELAND ACADEMY "PATRIOTS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND LEGENDARY COACH RICHARD DUEASE FOR AN UNPRECEDENTED 4TH CONSECUTIVE MAIS OVERALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on February 27, 2010, the Madison-Ridgeland Academy (MRA) "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team won an unprecedented 4th consecutive MAIS Overall Championship.  The Patriots (34-4) defeated Presbyterian Christian School by a score of 52-31.  With a total team effort, the boys extended their streak to 47 consecutive victories over MAIS schools; and

     WHEREAS, Ryan Ellis made certain Presbyterian Christian wouldn't end MRA's reign, valiantly scoring 15 points before an estimated crowd of 2,500 at A.E. Wood Coliseum.  Jubilant Madison-Ridgeland Academy fans presented a grinning Coach Richard Duease with a Gold Crown; and

     WHEREAS, for Richard Duease, his coaching legend continues to grow in the MAIS record books.  This triumph marked his seventh Overall Title at MRA, which stretched its MAIS winning streak to 47 games since a January 2009 loss to Jackson Academy.  Coach Duease gained his 813th career win, including 765 in 28 seasons at the private school dynasty he has built.  "Every year, our goal is to try to win the Overall State Championship.  These last few years, we've had a great group of players who don't believe they should lose this time of year," said Coach Duease; and

     WHEREAS, All-tournament team members are Ryan Ellis, Jordan Stentiford, Caleb Miskelly, Justin Malone and Jeffrey Rickels; and

     WHEREAS, as the season wore on, MRA's league winning streak became a source of pride.  The State Championship team roster is:  Craig Bell, Alec Rawlings, Jeffrey Rickels, Tyler Cummins, Caleb Miskelly, J.T. Williamson, Ryan Ellis, Connor Ruwe, Jordan Stentiford, Adam Sims, Will Hedgepeth, Austin Booth, Tyler Klaas, Robert Richardson, Justin Malone and Hadley Kelsey; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize and salute this championship team which has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Madison-Ridgeland Academy "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team and legendary Coach Richard Duease for an unprecedented fourth consecutive Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Overall State Championship and for their outstanding 2009-2010 season, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors and success in their future academic and athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Richard Duease and Headmaster Tommy Thompson for the team, forwarded to the MRA Board of Trustees and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
