Senate Concurrent Resolution 624
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE KEMPER COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL "WILDCATS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH JOHN ALAN DARNELL FOR AN EXCITING CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, in an exciting championship game, the Kemper County High School "Wildcats" Boys Basketball Team (25-8) defeated Forest High School 54-50 for the Class 3A State Championship at the Mississippi Coliseum on March 12, 2016; and
WHEREAS, there were 40 seconds left with Kemper County clinging to a three-point lead. Kemper County Coach John Alan Darnell said, "My heart stopped every time they shot it at that point." The third potential tying shot again missed. Kemper County came away with the rebound, and the Wildcats were able to close out a 54-50 win; and
WHEREAS, Center Matt Dale, who is listed at 6'6", was a significant reason why the Wildcats were able to take it. Dale scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Gus Nave led Kemper County with 20 points, five rebounds and three assists; and
WHEREAS, the 2016 Kemper County High School "Wildcats" Basketball Championship Roster is: James Sims; Jameez Sims; AJ Robertson; Otis Cross; Senous Williams; Dimitri Wren; DJ Clayton Gus Nave Ty Glaspie; Timothy McElroy; Rod Williams; Malik Jones; Quaderious Bohannon; Matt Dale; Delance Gillespie; Devon McClendon; Earl McDonald; Randarius Mosely; Shemar Rush; Trent Hopson; and Coach John Alan Darnell; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a dream season by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Kemper County High School "Wildcats" Boys Basketball Team and Coach John Alan Darnell for an exciting Class 3A State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Darnell for the team, Kemper County High School Principal Calvin Melton, forwarded to the Kemper County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
