A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE MEN'S GOLF TEAM AND HEAD COACH TOMMY SNELL FOR WINNING THE NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION DIVISION II MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Men's Golf Team had a record-breaking year by winning the program's first National Championship, along with District D Tournament for the tenth time in eleven years, and claiming three regular-season tournaments; and
WHEREAS, for his efforts in leading the Bulldogs to such heights, Head Coach Tommy Snell was named the Dave Williams "Coach of the Year" by the Golf Coaches Association of America; and
WHEREAS, for their efforts on the course, Brice Wilkinson was named Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman, Ping Division II All-American First-Team, Ping All-Region, First-Team NJCAA All-American, District D Medalist, and First-Team All-MACJC; Jackson Wedgeworth was named Ping Division II All-American Second-Team, Ping Division II All-Region, Hubert Tucker Award for lowest-scoring average in MACJC play, First-Team NJCAA All-American, and First-Team All-MACJC; Colby Blake was named Ping Division II All-American Honorable Mention, Ping Division II All-Region, Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American and Second-Team All-MACJC; Colby Entriken was named Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American and Second-Team All-MACJC; Carter Nicholson was named Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American; Miles Jackson earned three Top-10 finishes and one All-Tournament Team honor; Damien Dhossche had two Top-20 finishes; and Graham Evans earned MACJC Academic All-State honors; and
WHEREAS, for their efforts in the classroom, the team earned Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic Team, NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Honorable Mention, and had the highest grade-point average among all MACJC golf teams with a 3.49 GPA to win MACJC Academic All-State Team; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of the student-athletes whose efforts on and off the course bring honor to their school, their families and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Men's Golf Team upon winning the National Championship and extend to the team members our heartiest wishes of success in all their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach Tommy Snell for the Team, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College President Dr. Mary S. Graham, Vice President Dr. Ladd Taylor, Athletic Director Steven Campbell, Jr., and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
