Senate Concurrent Resolution 613
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF PEARL RIVER COUNTY'S "TEAM CHAOS" ROBOTICS COMPETITION TEAM AND THEIR NICHOLSON PROJECT COLLABORATION WITH THE LOCAL ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.
WHEREAS, Pearl River County's Team Chaos is preparing for another year of Robotic Competition in the FIRST Program. Team Chaos, FRC Team 1421, is based out of Picayune, Mississippi. The Robotics Team, under the leadership of Team Instructor Maureen Pollitz, comes from all walks of life, including ROTC, Drama Class, Band, science students and math students, along with an assorted group of people who only focus on Robotics. This is a 13-year Veteran Team that focuses on teamwork and safety in all environments; and
WHEREAS, the Teacher Sponsors for Team Chaos are Maureen Pollitz and Michelle Carter; Engineer Mentors are from Aerojet Rocketdyne and NASA. The high school students involved with Team Chaos are from Picayune Memorial High School, Pearl River Central High School, and Home School students. The driving force behind this project are two students, Bradley Booth and Anna Lander; and
WHEREAS, this year, Team Chaos has created the Nicholson Project that is involved with the Samsung Solver for Tomorrow Contest, which is a collaboration with the Elementary students from Nicholson and the High School Robotics Team. As of now, this group is in the Top 15 in the nation, which shows a favorable light on Mississippi's Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) emphasis. SolveTeamNE (Nicholson Elementary) has been chosen as one of the final 15 schools in the #SamsungSolve Competition, and is in the running to win $2 Million in Samsung technology; and
WHEREAS, Team Chaos is very involved with the Pearl River Community, and holds events like an Open House to keep them involved. In 2014-2015, Team Chaos had a Science Camp, Camp Chaos, along with helping at a local elementary school during their hot balloon day where a scientist showed his homemade hot balloon to the kids and explained how science and math went into building it; and
WHEREAS, through the years, Team Chaos has won many awards at many different competitions, including:
� 2012 Bayou Regional-Xerox Creativity Award;
� 2012 Bayou Regional Finalists;
� 2012 Dallas West Judge's Award;
� 2011 Bayou Regional Semifinalist;
� 2011 Smoky Mt. Regional Creativity Award;
� 2010 FIRST Championship Curie Division Finalist (Atlanta)
� 2010 Bayou Regional Winner;
� 2010 Bayou Regional Team Spirit Award;
� 2010 Bayou Regional Safety Recognition Award;
� 2010 Dallas Regional Semifinalist;
� 2009 Lone Star Regional Winner, Bayou Regional Finalist;
� 2008 Bayou Regional Xerox Creativity Award;
� 2007 Bayou Regional Motorola Quality Award;
� 2006 Lone Star Regional Winner; and
� 2004 Lone Star Highest Rookie Seed; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend this community and school collaboration which emphasizes the importance of science and mathematics instruction in our schools and is a wonderful example of achievement for all in Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the accomplishments of Pearl River County's "Team Chaos" Robotics Competition and their Nicholson Project Collaboration with the local elementary and high school students and extend our best wishes for success in Regional and future competition.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Team Chaos sponsors, forwarded to the State Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
