Senate Concurrent Resolution 611

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ITAWAMBA AGRICULTURAL HIGH SCHOOL "LADY INDIANS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND FIRST YEAR COACH DEVIN HILL FOR THEIR FIRST CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE 1952.

WHEREAS, Constance Dunn made the game-winning steal during the Class 4A MHSAA Girls Basketball Championship Game on March 15, 2014.  Dunn came up with the steal with six seconds left as Itawamba Agricultural High School (AHS) stunned reigning champ Bay High 42-41 at the Mississippi Coliseum; and

WHEREAS, Constance Dunn finished with 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and had four steals against the Tigers, who had not lost to a 4A opponent since the 2011-2012 season.  Itawamba's Aniyah Marshall stripped the ball loose with 17 seconds left, then forced another turnover.  Jamyia Hill hit a 3-pointer with 2:15 seconds left that gave Itawamba AHS (30-8) the lead for good at 41-39.  It was Itawamba's only field goal in the fourth quarter.  Kim Mallory, who is only one of two seniors on the team, added 13 points for the Lady Indians; and

WHEREAS, "We play defense and that is just what we do," said Devin Hill, the first-year Itawamba AHS Coach.  "We just out-hustled them and played with more aggression and played very hard"; and

WHEREAS, Itawamba AHS clinched its first State Title since 1952; and

WHEREAS, the 2013-2014 Lady Indians Girls Basketball Team Roster is:  Aniyah Marshall, Bre Stewart, Constance Dunn, Elisabeth Cleveland, Jamyia Hill, Kim Mallory, Lilli Moore, Madalyn Carter, Shanail Hughes and Tori Mallory; and Coach Devin Hill; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Itawamba Agricultural High School "Lady Indians" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Devin Hill, and extend our best wishes to the team, coach, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Hill and Itawamba Principal Trae Wiygul, forwarded to the Itawamba Agricultural High School Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
