A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING GAYLE GREENE-AGUIRRE FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE PERKINSTON CAMPUS OF MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

     WHEREAS, Gayle Greene-Aguirre, a resident of McHenry, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Perkinston Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

     WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

     WHEREAS, Gayle Greene-Aguirre, a History and Honors Instructor, has taught in the History and Honors Programs at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 14 years and has taught for the past 28 years as a traditional classroom and online instructor; and

     WHEREAS, Gayle Greene-Aguirre received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from the University of Connecticut, a Master of Arts in Latin American History from the University of North Texas, 46 hours of Education courses from Kennesaw College at the University of Georgia, 42 hours of graduate work in Education at The University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University, and 86 graduate hours in Leadership from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.  She is a Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Institute Faculty Scholar for 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004, and she completed the Asian Studies Seminar at the Croft Institute, The University of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Gayle Greene-Aguirre is a member of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Mississippi Professional Educators, Mississippi Foreign Language Association, American Association of University Women, Mississippi Council for the Social Studies Board of Directors, National Council for History Education, Mississippi Council for History Education, American Quarter Horse Association, Arabian Horse Registry of America, the Retired Military Officers Association, Ordnance Officers Association, U.S. Army Women's Foundation, and Women's Army Corp Veterans Association; and

     WHEREAS, Gayle Greene-Aguirre received the Phi Theta Kappa International Advisor Award for Continued Excellence, the Association of Community College Trustees Southern Region Faculty Award and the Mississippi Professional Educators Board Appreciation Award, and was selected as an Exam Reader for the Advanced Placement World History Exams at Colorado State University, for Who's Who Among Teachers and by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to attend the Business in Education Grant in Tokyo, Japan; and

     WHEREAS, Gayle Greene-Aguirre is an active member of the Retired Military Officers Association and the Women's Army Corps Veterans Association, Editorial Consultant for the U.S. Army Women's Association, coordinator of various activities for the South Mississippi Horse Show Association, and collector/deliverer of food for Latimer Lights (St. Anne's Catholic Church) and for Our Daily Bread Pantry in Wiggins; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this professional educator, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Gayle Greene-Aguirre for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Perkinston Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and extend to her our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Gayle Greene-Aguirre, forwarded to the Board of Trustees of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
