Senate Concurrent Resolution 568

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MRS. MARY B. CROSSMAN FOR 60 REMARKABLE YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE AT MISSISSIPPI STATE HOSPITAL AND AS THE LONGEST TENURED STATE EMPLOYEE.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Mary B. Crossman is celebrating 60 years of dedicated professional service at Mississippi State Hospital which makes her the longest tenured Mississippi state employee; and

     WHEREAS, Mary is Director of Health Information at Mississippi State Hospital and was originally employed on January 9, 1951; and

     WHEREAS, Mary's contributions to the Mississippi Department of Mental Health are well-known and include the following special accomplishments:

     ·  Began work at Mississippi State Hospital straight out of college as a typing clerk for six months before being named Director of Medical Records (now Health Information).  She has worked in the same office for 60 years!;

     ·  She attended East Central Junior College, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the University of Georgia, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Oklahoma.  She acquired additional studies in biostatistics and epidemiology at Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health;

     ·  Mrs. Crossman has served as consultant for various health care facilities and has served as a Clinical Instructor for the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Health Related Professionals, and for the Hinds Community College School of Medical Record Technology;

     ·  Board member and past President of the Friends of Mississippi State Hospital in 1987, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the work of Mississippi State Hospital and awareness of mental health issues.  She has since served and chaired numerous committees within the organization as well; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Crossman is the proud recipient of the following service awards:

     ·  Motivator Award 1999 presented by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) for over 40 years of service to the organization;

     ·  Distinguished Member Award 1981 presented by the Mississippi Health Information Management Association (MSHIMA).  Lifetime Achievement Award 1996 presented by MSHIMA;

     ·  Mental Health Section AHIMA Pioneer Award 1993; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the Mississippi Department of Mental Health in honoring this public administrator and offering the thanks of a grateful state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend Mrs. Mary B. Crossman, Director of Health Information at Mississippi State Hospital, for her remarkable 60 years of dedicated service to the department and as the longest tenured Mississippi state employee, and extend our best wishes to her and her family on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mrs. Crossman, forwarded to the Mississippi Board of Mental Health and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
