A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION DESIGNATING APRIL 2022 AS THE "MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD" IN MISSISSIPPI AND DESIGNATING APRIL 20, 2022, AS "PURPLE UP! FOR MILITARY KIDS DAY" IN MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, during the month of April 2022, Lowndes County, Mississippi, will observe "Month of the Military Child" and April 20, 2022, as "Purple Up! for Military Kids Day" to honor military families and their children for the sacrifices they make and their unconditional support of our armed forces; and

     WHEREAS, the recognition of the "Month of the Military Child," first established in 1986 by Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger, will allow us to pay tribute to military children for their commitment, their struggles and their unconditional support of our troops.  Because when parents serve in the military, their "kids serve too"; and

     WHEREAS, the healthy physical, social and emotional well-being of children in military families is essential to their success and has a direct impact on the resiliency of military families serving our country; and

     WHEREAS, by ensuring military children are safe and supported in our schools and communities, our men and women in uniform can focus on the challenges and missions they face in the line of duty; and

     WHEREAS, our efforts and support can improve the lives of military youth and help pave the way for future generations; and

     WHEREAS, April is a month-long salute to military children and youth.  Everyone in local community is encouraged to wear purple on Wednesday, 20 April, as a visible sign to thank military children for their strength and sacrifice:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby designate April 2022 to be the

          "MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD" in Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we do hereby designate April 20, 2022, to be

          "PURPLE UP! FOR MILITARY KIDS DAY" in Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be transmitted to Columbus AFB and the Mississippi Board for Military and Veterans Affairs and the State Board of Education for proper distribution to the schools of our state and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
