WHEREAS, U.S. News & World Report analyzed data for nearly 5,000 health care facilities nationwide and released its 24th annual Best Hospitals rankings, recognizing hospitals that excel in treating patients who need an especially high level of care, ranking Memorial Hospital as #1 of the 116 hospitals that serve the residents of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, U.S. News & World Report listed Memorial Hospital among the top hospitals in the nation for Diabetes and Endocrinology care.  Memorial Hospital was the only hospital in Mississippi to receive national recognition in any of the 16 medical specialties studied by U.S. News & World Report; and

WHEREAS, Memorial Hospital was one of only 147 hospitals in the United States to receive a national ranking for any of the medical specialties that were measured.  Memorial Hospital was rated as high-performing in Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Pulmonology and Urology; and

WHEREAS, Memorial Hospital scored high in patient safety, "demonstrating commitment to reducing accidents and medical mistakes," and scored higher than national and state averages in patient satisfaction categories; and

WHEREAS, Memorial Hospital's nursing staff received the highest ranking score in all high-performing specialty categories evaluated by U.S. News & World Report; and
