Senate Concurrent Resolution 553
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE TYLERTOWN HIGH SCHOOL "CHIEFS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND VETERAN COACH WALTER DENTON FOR WINNING THE CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Tylertown High School "Chiefs" Football Team kept the promise to themselves, their coaches and their fans and won the Mississippi High School Athletic Association Class 3A State Championship on December 5, 2009, by erasing a 20-0 deficit at the end of the first quarter to dominate Aberdeen 34-20; and
WHEREAS, for Tylertown, the win marked the Chiefs' first State Title and their second straight appearance in the Championship Game; and
WHEREAS, if there is a recipe for a championship football team, Walter Denton, Head Coach of the Tylertown High School Chiefs, has found it. The team made it to the playoffs last year, 2008 District Champs, and, after being denied victory as time ran out, vowed they would be back; and
WHEREAS, Coach Denton, in his 19th year at Tylertown High, says what makes this team a bit different than the others are the 23 senior players that have been together since seventh grade when they all started football together. "All 23 stepped up to the plate. You really can't single any one of them out," Denton said. He's quick to give credit to the entire team for the championship; and
WHEREAS, the Tylertown High School 3A State Champs roster: Jameon Lewis, Jawon Jackson, Dameuntez Magee, Tyree Holmes, Taylor Magee, Deon Howard, Delvin Jones, Josh Holloway, T.O. Robertson, Adam Wilkes, Willdarrius Smith, Peyton Denton, Desmine Stewart, Ken Brown, JaJuan Caston, Chris Jones, Jonathan Lenoir, Jake Dykes, Didriquez Smith, Dalron Jones, Qunicy Conerly, Machearus Bridges, Maquillie Bridges, Montell Harvey, Tyriunce Lewis, Sam Magee, Ladarrius Slocum, Edward Mark, Jacoby Howard, Josh Holmes, Javis Jackson, Germaine Gatlin, Earl Smith, Tyrione McCray, Darrian Stewart, Dionte Milton, Arzito Mark, Meremy Badon, Bentrell Holmes, Ryan Chipman, Jace Conerly, Richard Carson, Kris McGruder, Blake Couvillion, Ta Mario Brister, John Magee, Anfrenee Lowe, Kendrick Magee, Oliver Bates, Parker Young, Caston Magee, Logan Conerly, Tadarrius Youngblood, Duprezyeon Magee, Martice Spears, Charles Peters and Brandon Silas; and
WHEREAS, the following players were rewarded for their outstanding play: Jameon Lewis was named Class 3A Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year, 3A Player of the State Championship Game and Division 7-3A Player of the Year; Josh Holmes and Ken Brown were selected Class 3A First Team All-State; T.O. Robertson, Taylor Magee, Logan Conerly, Jawon Jackson and Jace Conerly were named Class 3A Second Team All-State; Deon Howard and Jeremy Badon were selected Class 3A All-State Honorable Mention; and Josh Holmes, Ken Brown, T.O. Robertson, Taylor Magee, Logan Conerly, Jawon Jackson, Jace Conerly, Deon Howard and Jeremy Badon were named First Team All-Division 7-3A; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Walter Denton was ably assisted by Assistant Coaches Jimmy Lee, Jason Johnson, Levern Lee, Brad Dowell, Steve Lawrence, and Scott Lee. Coach Denton has brought additional honor to himself and to Tylertown High School by being named as the Class 3A Mississippi Coaches Association Coach of the Year, and Coach Denton and his assistants were named as the Class 3A Division 7 Coaching Staff of the Year; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this team which has united the community and brought honor to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tylertown High School "Chiefs" Football Team and veteran Coach Walter Denton for winning the Mississippi High School Athletic Association Class 3A State Championship, and extend to the players, coaches, parents and administration our best wishes to the team in their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Principal Cynthia J. Magee, forwarded to Mayor Ed Hughes of Tylertown and the Walthall County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
