A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TRINITY EPISCOPAL DAY SCHOOL "SAINTS" FOOTBALL TEAM IN NATCHEZ, MISSISSIPPI, AND HEAD COACH DAVID KING FOR WINNING THEIR 5TH MAIS CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR THEIR UNDEFEATED 2010 SEASON.
WHEREAS, the Trinity Episcopal Day School "Saints" Football Team in Natchez, Mississippi, reached the pinnacle by winning the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Class A State Championship as the culmination of an outstanding undefeated 2010 season; and
WHEREAS, on November 26 the Saints trounced the Tri-County Rebels 46-14 for the championship. Trinity Episcopal scored the first five times they had the ball, leading 34-0 early in the second quarter, and 40-7 at half-time. After scoring their 7th touchdown at the opening of the third quarter, the Trinity starters got comfortable on the sidelines, coaches emptied the bench allowing everyone playing time, and officials began running a fast clock. Kent King scored 3 touchdowns on runs of 3 yards, 2 yards and 47 yards. Tip McKenzie scored twice, first on a 73-yard punt return, and 3:20 later on a 31-yard pass play from Givonni Dent. Daniel Dunaway ran in for a 6-yard touchdown, and Jake Winston caught a 21-yard pass from Givonni Dent to score. King finished with 93 yards on 16 carries. Dent also had 54 yards on 6 runs. Givonni Dent completed 2 passes, both for touchdowns, and Trevor Faust completed his 1-pass attempt for a 32-yard gain; and
WHEREAS, Trinity's defense was outstanding, allowing only 27 rushing yards in the first half. The Saints intercepted 4 passes, Dent with 2 for 24 yards in returns, Tanner Cage 1 for an 84-yard return, and Garrett Vinson 1 interception on the last play of the game with a 17-yard return. Taylor Strahan and King each recovered one Rebel fumble; and
WHEREAS, for the undefeated season, Trinity won 15 games, scored 670 points to opponents 237, made 97 touchdowns, 2 safeties, kicked 56 extra points, and completed 14 2-point conversions, with 6,053 offensive yards; and
WHEREAS, with the Saints' dominance on the field, Coach King held back on scoring opportunities in over half of the games, running down the clock, and also allowing younger players game experience for the future; and
WHEREAS, this was Trinity's 5th State Football Championship, the 4th in the last 10 years under Coach David King's leadership; and
WHEREAS, the MAIS has selected 3 senior members of the 2010 Trinity Episcopal School Varsity Football Team as MAIS All Stars. They are offensive left guard and kicker Zach Marshall (78); quarterback and defensive linebacker Givonni Dent (2); and offensive running back and defensive linebacker Kent King (22). The three played for the South Team at the MAIS All-Star game on Friday, December 3rd, at Robinson-Hale Stadium, Mississippi College, Clinton, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the 2010 Trinity Saints' Football Team Roster is:

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Trinity Episcopal Day School "Saints" Football Team in Natchez, Mississippi, and Head Coach David King for winning their 5th MAIS Class A State Championship and for their undefeated 2010 season, and extend to them best wishes in their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Headmaster of Trinity Day School and Coach David King for the team and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
