A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE DISTINGUISHED JUDICIAL SERVICE OF FORMER MISSISSIPPI COURT OF APPEALS PRESIDING JUSTICE WILLIAM "BILL" HARBIN MYERS.

     WHEREAS, Judge Bill Myers' service to The Mississippi Bar as practicing attorney, as Chancellor and as Presiding Judge of the Mississippi Court of Appeals, is a wonderful legacy to the court; and

     WHEREAS, former Justice William "Bill" Harbin Myers was born on August 22, 1941, in Jackson, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, after graduating from Murrah High School, Judge Myers nobly served in the United States Army from 1964-1966 during the Vietnam War era.  While in the Army, Judge Myers earned the rank of First Lieutenant and received the Army Commendation Medal; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Myers attended Mississippi State University where he earned his bachelor's degree and went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Myers was engaged in the private practice of law in Pascagoula, Mississippi, for 23 years until his appointment as Chancellor for the 16th Chancery Court District in Mississippi in July 1992 and served continuously as Chancellor until 2000; and

     WHEREAS, in June of 2000, Judge Myers was appointed to the Mississippi Court of Appeals.  He was reelected to the Court and served as a Presiding Judge from November 2005 until his retirement in December 2011; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Myers has been married to Edie Myers for 46 years.  Together they have three children:  William "Bill," Julie and Joshua; and four grandchildren:  Price, Matthew (deceased), Christian (deceased) and Sophia; and

     WHEREAS, it is with humility that we recognize the long and influential service of this respected Jurist, friend and member of the Bar:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby pay tribute to the distinguished judicial service of former Mississippi Court of Appeals Presiding Justice William "Bill" Harbin Myers, and extend to Justice Myers and his family our best wishes.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Justice Myers, forwarded to The Mississippi Bar, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
