Senate Concurrent Resolution 541

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE LEGISLATURE ON THE PASSING OF JACKSON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT AUTHORITY COMMISSIONER DR. ROSIE JOHNSON AND CONDOLENCES TO HER FAMILY.

     WHEREAS, we are saddened to learn of the passing of esteemed Jackson Municipal Airport Authority Commissioner Dr. Rosie Johnson on January 12, 2018; and

     WHEREAS, Rosie L.T. Pridgen Johnson, Ph.D, is a native Mississippian.  She has been a resident of Jackson since 1970, after graduating from Jackson State University.  In addition to earning the Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Educational Specialist, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Jackson State University, Dr. Johnson also obtained the Master of Education Degree in Blind Rehabilitation, with an emphasis in Orientation and Mobility for the Blind, from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  She has also studied at other Mississippi universities.  Dr. Johnson was a Teacher, Substitute Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Interim Superintendent and Superintendent.  In 2013, she retired from the position of Superintendent of the Mississippi School for the Blind, a position she held for 15 years.  During two and one-half of those years, she concurrently served as Superintendent of the Mississippi School for the Deaf.  Dr. Johnson was a graduate of Leadership Greater Jackson, an avid volunteer, a supporter of programs and projects that aimed to improve individuals and communities, and she was a member of Mt. Carmel Ministries.  She had a blended family of four children and 11 grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, her enthusiasm for the City of Jackson and inexhaustible commitment to Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International and Hawkins Field Airports is irreplaceable and will be missed greatly; and

     WHEREAS, we pay tribute and cherish fondly the memory of this most public-spirited citizen of Mississippi with enormous civic energy:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby extend the profound sorrow of the Legislature on the passing of Jackson Municipal Airport Authority Commissioner Dr. Rosie Johnson and express condolences to her family.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Dr. Johnson, forwarded to the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
