Senate Concurrent Resolution 528

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION HONORING THE SEATTLE SEAHAWKS SUPER BOWL LX CHAMPIONS WITH TIES TO MISSISSIPPI: DERICK HALL OF GULFPORT, CHARLES CROSS OF LAUREL AND MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY, CAM AKERS OF CLINTON, AND COACH LESLIE FRAZIER OF COLUMBIA AND ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY, FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE TEAM'S VICTORY AND THEIR PRIDE IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, on February 8, 2026, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots by a score of 29-13 in Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, securing the franchise's second Super Bowl Championship; and

     WHEREAS, this historic victory showcases exceptional talent, determination, and teamwork, with several key contributors proudly hailing from the State of Mississippi or having strong connections to its institutions of higher education; and

     WHEREAS, Derick Hall, a native of Gulfport, Mississippi, and standout linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks, played a pivotal role in the championship game, recording two sacks, including a game-changing strip sack, and demonstrating remarkable resilience, having overcome tremendous odds from birth with only a 1% chance of survival; and

     WHEREAS, Charles Cross, a native of Laurel, Mississippi, and former standout offensive lineman at Mississippi State University, anchored the Seahawks' offensive line as the starting left tackle, playing every snap in the Super Bowl victory and protecting the quarterback throughout the dominant performance; and

     WHEREAS, Cam Akers, a native of Clinton, Mississippi, contributed to the Seahawks' roster during the season and was elevated for the Super Bowl, adding his experience as a two-time champion (having previously won Super Bowl LVI) to the team's success; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Leslie Frazier, with deep roots in Columbia, Mississippi, and an alumnus of Alcorn State University, served as the Assistant Head Coach for the Seattle Seahawks, providing invaluable leadership, defensive expertise, and guidance that were critical to the team's journey to and triumph in Super Bowl LX, marking his third Super Bowl ring across his storied career as a player and coach; and

     WHEREAS, these individuals exemplify the talent, perseverance, and spirit that Mississippi produces, bringing immense pride to their hometowns, alma maters, and the entire state through their achievements on the national stage:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Derick Hall of Gulfport, Charles Cross of Laurel and Mississippi State University, Cam Akers of Clinton, and Coach Leslie Frazier of Columbia and Alcorn State University for their outstanding contributions to the Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl LX Championship and for serving as inspiring representatives of Mississippi excellence.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Derick Hall, Charles Cross, Cam Akers, Leslie Frazier, the Seattle Seahawks organization, Mississippi State University, Alcorn State University, and the Mayors and City Councils of Gulfport, Laurel, Clinton, and Columbia, as a testament to the pride and admiration of the people of Mississippi, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
