A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2009-2010 NORTH PONTOTOC HIGH SCHOOL "LADY VIKINGS" FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH SHANE MONTGOMERY FOR WINNING THE MHSAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON.

WHEREAS, the North Pontotoc High School "Lady Vikings" Fast-Pitch Softball Team completed its 2009-2010 season with an outstanding 34-3 record and a tremendous performance in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Vikings were inspired by NEMS Daily Journal Fast-Pitch Softball Player of the Year Danyel Raby. The senior center fielder played for the Lady Vikings with a bulky brace on her left knee to support a torn anterior cruciate ligament, but despite this injury, Danyel batted .562 in the crucial leadoff spot, scored a state's-best 61 runs, and stole an amazing 38 bases in 42 attempts. She also had 72 hits, 28 RBIs, three triples and a home run for the MHSAA's Class 4A State Fast-Pitch Champions; and

WHEREAS, Coach Shane Montgomery coached the West team in the Northeast Mississippi Softball Coaches Association All-Star Game on June 10, 2010, which the West won 8-7 in 13 innings, and was named the Northeast Mississippi Softball Coaches Association (NEMSCA) Fast-Pitch Coach of the Year for this season; and

WHEREAS, the North Pontotoc Lady Viking Fastpitch Softball 2009-2010 Roster: Taylor Coker, Katie Mercer, Brooklyn Jensen, Meggin Nelson, Kelsey Robertson, Lauren Rodgers, Courtney Quillian, Paige Anderson, Danyel Raby, Katie Denton, Lakin Morris, Brianna Gable, Carmen Davis, Lindsey Nelson, Tia Davis, Arriann Henry, Abby Wilder, Melanie Works, Shanda Melton, Brittany Seale, and Hana Tate; Head Coach Shane Montgomery and Assistant Coach Amanda Bailey; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this championship team which has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and congratulate the 2009-2010 North Pontotoc "Lady Viking" Fast-Pitch Softball Team and Coach of the Year Shane Montgomery for winning the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship and for their outstanding season, and extend our best wishes for future athletic and academic successes.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Montgomery, North Pontotoc Principal Roger Smith and Superintendent Kenny Roye for the team and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
