Senate Concurrent Resolution 522
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SOUTH PANOLA HIGH SCHOOL "TIGERS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED HEAD COACH LANCE POGUE FOR WINNING A RECORD 11TH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FIRST UNDEFEATED SEASON SINCE 2010.
WHEREAS, South Panola High School "Tigers" Football Team earned its 11th State Championship with a 27-21 win over Oak Grove in the MHSAA Class 6A title game, played for the first time at Davis Wade Stadium December 7, 2014; and
WHEREAS, the appropriately nicknamed "University of South Panola" won its 11th State Championship. The Tigers finished 15-0 for the seventh time and earned a No. 9 National Ranking and No. 1 Clarion-Ledger Super 10 Ranking through a dominant running game led by Dandy Dozen tailback Darrel Henderson and a defense that recorded 28 interceptions. It was a fitting conclusion for a team that has had a stranglehold on Mississippi's No. 1 Ranking; and
WHEREAS, after a power outage and rainout postponed the Championship Game, the contest picked up Sunday afternoon with South Panola up 7-0. The Tigers came back from a 10-7 deficit at halftime and outscored the Warriors 14-3 in the third quarter. Oak Grove stayed alive late in the fourth quarter making a two-point conversion to the game 21-21, forcing overtime against the No. 8 team in the nation. On South Panola's first overtime attempt, Darrell Henderson took in a 10-yard run straight through the middle to put the Tigers on top. Tyler Pogue hauled 112 yards in the air for two touchdowns. Henderson picked up 196 yards rushing and two scores. Mississippi State commit Cam Myers was 12-of-26 passing for 204 yards and a touchdown while throwing four picks; and
WHEREAS, this is South Panola Coach Lance Pogue's sixth title with the Tigers; and
