Senate Concurrent Resolution 519

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING HAILEY THOMAS UPON BEING CROWNED 2013 MISSISSIPPI MISS HOSPITALITY.
WHEREAS, Hailey Thomas was crowned 2013 Mississippi Miss Hospitality in July 2013 after a night "Under the Big Top" at the Hattiesburg Saenger Theater; and
WHEREAS, a native of Clarkdale in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, Hailey impressed the judges throughout the week through a process of interviews and on-stage competition, which included the Little Black Dress/Commercial Competition and the Evening Gown Competition. She also received the Miss Photogenic Award, as voted on by the other contestants; and
WHEREAS, Hailey is a graduate of Meridian Community College where she was President of Phi Theta Kappa, a singer and dancer for Dimensions Show Choir, and a member of Mississippi's All-Academic First Team. Hailey will attend Ole Miss in the fall and major in Biology with plans to become a pediatrician; and
WHEREAS, "Hailey will be a wonderful representative for our state over the next year," said Susan Slaughter, President of the Miss Hospitality Board of Directors. "She has a very exciting year ahead of her as she promotes Mississippi's Economic Development and Tourism programs. She has proven herself to be an outstanding young lady and we are confident that she will represent our state with beauty and grace"; and
WHEREAS, as 2013 Mississippi Miss Hospitality, Hailey will travel more than 30,000 miles promoting Mississippi's tourism and economic development. She will also serve as its Goodwill Ambassador for one year, showing hospitality to everyone she meets, and she will represent the State of Mississippi in the spring of 2014 for Mississippi Day in New York City; and
WHEREAS, there is no doubt this impressive young lady will achieve great success as a leader in this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Hailey Thomas upon being chosen as 2013 Mississippi Miss Hospitality, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Hailey Thomas, her parents, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
