Senate Concurrent Resolution 510
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE SINCEREST SYMPATHY OF THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE TO THE SURVIVING FAMILY OF FIRST-YEAR MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE MEMBER ANDY STEPP OF BRUCE, MISSISSIPPI, AND COMMENDING HIS SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY AND HIS STATE.
WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of first-year Mississippi House of Representative member Andy Stepp of Bruce, Mississippi, on December 5, 2024, at the age of 66; and
WHEREAS, born on June 23, 1958, in Memphis, Tennessee, Andy dedicated his life to serving his community and fostering connections with those around him. He resided in Bruce, Mississippi, where he made a lasting impact through his diverse roles and multifaceted life; and
WHEREAS, an esteemed pharmacist and the owner of Stepp Saver Pharmacy, Andy was a graduate of the University of Mississippi's Pharmacy Program. He proudly served as a preceptor for pharmacy students, sharing his knowledge and passion for the field with the next generation of healthcare professionals. His commitment to the health and well-being of his community was considerable, as he tirelessly worked to provide exceptional care to every person who walked through his pharmacy doors; and
WHEREAS, Representative Stepps's dedication extended beyond his profession. He served as a Mississippi State Representative for District 23, representing Lafayette, Webster, Pontotoc and Calhoun Counties, advocating for the needs of his constituents; and
WHEREAS, Representative Stepp was also an active member of the Bruce Volunteer Fire Department, embodying the spirit of service and bravery; and
WHEREAS, his faith was central to his life, and he was a cherished member of Bruce First Baptist Church. Outside of his professional and community commitments, Andy possessed a vibrant personality and a love for life; and
WHEREAS, Andy is survived by daughters: Andrea Stepp and Anna Cooper; mother, Willie Ard Stepp; brother, Michael Stepp; and beloved grandchildren: Allyeana, Zoey, Kendall, Isabella, and Praisley; and
WHEREAS, "I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of fellow House colleague, Representative Andy Stepp," House Speaker Jason White said before concluding, "A freshman member, Andy joined the legislature in 2024, and as a pharmacist and business-owner for 35 years, made a great contribution to legislation." Andy served on several committees, including the public health, Medicaid, public utility, drug policy and Judiciary A committees. He was also on a taskforce committee aimed at addressing the issue of pharmacy benefit managers, a subject he had personal knowledge of as a local pharmacist in Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Representative Stepp's life honored both his community and this great state that he loved and served:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we hereby extend the sincerest sympathy of the Mississippi Senate to the surviving family of first-year Mississippi House Representative member Andy Stepp of Bruce, Mississippi, and commend his service to his community and his State.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Representative Stepp, forwarded to the Board of Supervisors of Calhoun County, Mississippi, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
