Senate Concurrent Resolution 505
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE DEEP AND HEARTFELT SYMPATHY OF THE MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE TO THE FAMILY OF GEORGE COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFF JEREMY TODD MALONE WHO WAS LOST IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON JANUARY 4, 2024.
WHEREAS, we mourn the passing of George County Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Todd Malone who was tragically lost in the line of duty during a traffic stop on January 4, 2024; and
WHEREAS, by order of Governor Tate Reeves, flags across the State of Mississippi were flown at half-staffed on January 12, 2024, as the state honored the sacrifice of Deputy Malone; and
WHEREAS, Jeremy Malone was born February 13, 1979. He grew up in Perry County and graduated from Perry County High School in 1998. His friends called him "Malone"; and
WHEREAS, exhibiting an early interest in law enforcement, he attended and then graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy (MLEOTA) in Harrison County in 2002; and
WHEREAS, since that time, he worked with the Leakesville Police Department, the Greene County Sheriff's Department, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, and the Biloxi Police Department, volunteering for numerous special duties such as Cruising the Coast, Black Spring Break, Santa Wears a Badge and the Blue Line Toy Drive. He had a 21-year dedicated law enforcement career; and
WHEREAS, Jeremy was also employed full-time as Facility Security Officer and Security Manager at Bollinger Shipyards (formerly Halter Marine). He joined the firm in 2014, where he was well liked and known for his wit and candor, according to fellow employees. "Jeremy was an employee, but also a friend," said Chris Remont, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Bollinger Mississippi Shipbuilding in Pascagoula. "Just know that Jeremy was a very capable and dedicated shipbuilder and terrific person. He will be missed"; and
WHEREAS, his greatest joy was time with family, his loving wife and precious daughters. He was devoted to his loved ones, the communities he served and his fellow Brothers in Blue. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed; and
WHEREAS, he is preceded in death by his uncle, Shelby Byrd. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Hilary Malone; daughters, Abbie Malone, Alivia Malone and Brooklyn Malone; mother, Sherrye Eubanks; brothers, Jason (Adele) Malone and Scottie (Brittany) Anders; loving aunt, Voncile Byrd; mother-in-law, Connie Coulter; sister-in-law, Heather (Tony) Ferguson; Brothers in Blue throughout multiple agencies in South Mississippi; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, we can never repay our debt to law enforcement officers and their families; however, we must do what we can, with all that we have, to live our lives in a way that pays tribute to their memory. We should not pause and remember to thank law enforcement officers only in the wake of tragedy. We should do it every day. In mourning the loss of Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Malone, we recognize that his passing will never diminish the profound impact he has made in the lives of his family, his colleagues his community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby extend the deep and heartfelt sympathy of the Legislature to the family of George County Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Malone who was lost in the line of duty on January 4, 2024.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the family of Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Malone, forwarded to the George County Sheriff and Board of Supervisors and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
