AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 1, CHAPTER 940, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 2009, AS LAST AMENDED BY CHAPTER 903, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 2020, TO EXTEND THE DATE OF REPEAL FROM JULY 1, 2024, TO JULY 1, 2028, ON THE PROVISION OF LAW THAT AUTHORIZES THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF GREENE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO ASSESS A CERTAIN FEE FOR ANY CIVIL CASE FILED AND ANY MISDEMEANOR CONVICTION OBTAINED IN THE JUSTICE COURT OF THE COUNTY TO FUND CERTAIN MAINTENANCE AND CONSTRUCTION NEEDS OF THE GREENE COUNTY JUSTICE COURT COMPLEX; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 1, Chapter 940, Local and Private Laws of 2009, as amended by Chapter 917, Local and Private Laws of 2012, as amended by Chapter 922, Local and Private Laws of 2016, as amended by Chapter 903, Local and Private Laws of 2020, is amended as follows:
Section 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Greene County, Mississippi, in its discretion, is authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed Fifteen Dollars ($15.00) per case, for each civil case filed in any justice court of Greene County and for each misdemeanor conviction obtained in any justice court of such county.
(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be expended by the Board of Supervisors of Greene County to fund the construction, operation, maintenance and related needs of a new county office building, to be known as the "Greene County Justice Court Complex."
(3) The provisions of this
section shall be repealed from and after July 1, * * * 2028.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
